NAMPA, Idaho β The McCall-Donnelly Vandals completed their impressive state tournament run by claiming third place with a convincing 60-46 victory over the Marsh Valley Eagles at the Ford Idaho Center on Saturday.
Sam Penny led the Vandals with a dominant 20-point, 7-rebound performance, while Sam Scott added 16 points and Michael Foster contributed 13 points and 5 rebounds to the winning effort.
The Vandals established control early, taking a 16-12 first quarter advantage and building a 32-24 lead by halftime. Despite Marsh Valley’s attempts to rally after the break, McCall-Donnelly maintained their composure, matching the Eagles point-for-point in a 28-22 second half.
McCall-Donnelly’s sharp-shooting proved decisive in the victory, as they connected on 48.9% from the field and hit an impressive 37.5% from beyond the arc. The Vandals also dominated the boards with a commanding 43-22 rebounding advantage that led to crucial second-chance opportunities.
Maddox Arnold orchestrated the Vandals’ offense with 8 assists, while their defense held Marsh Valley to just 29.0% shooting. The Eagles were led by Kaden Hansen with 12 points, followed by Eli Hadley with 10 points and Jaxson Smith with 9 points.
This victory caps a remarkable tournament for the sixth-seeded Vandals, who shocked third-seeded Sugar-Salem in the opening round before falling to eventual finalist Snake River. Their third-place finish represents the program’s best result in recent memory.
