The #6 Timberlake Tigers rebounded from their opening round loss with a convincing 10-2 victory over #7 Preston in an elimination game at the 4A Idaho State Softball Championships, keeping their tournament hopes alive with a complete performance.
Shae Jones was absolutely dominant in the circle for Timberlake, striking out an incredible 16 batters while walking none in a complete game effort. The Tigers’ ace allowed just 7 hits and 2 runs over her 7 innings of work, completely neutralizing the Preston offense throughout the contest.
Timberlake wasted no time establishing control, jumping ahead 2-0 in the first inning when Marissa Needs blasted a home run to left field and Alannah Winland followed with an RBI single down the left field line. The Tigers extended their lead to 4-0 in the second inning thanks to Jesi Kitchin’s double to center and a fielder’s choice from Jones.
Sadie Green’s RBI single pushed the advantage to 6-0 in the third inning, and Timberlake continued to add insurance runs throughout the game to secure the comfortable victory.
Alannah Winland led the Tigers’ 10-hit attack by going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, while Green added two hits of her own. Jones and Amy McCune each drove in two runs, with McCune also drawing two walks as part of Timberlake’s patient approach at the plate.
Preston’s Ellie Keller took the loss after allowing 6 runs (3 earned) over 3 innings. Ally Smith led the Indians offensively, going 2-for-3 in the loss.
With the victory, Timberlake advances to face the loser of the Weiser vs. Cole Valley quarterfinal in Game 9 on Friday at 1:30 PM, while Preston is eliminated from the tournament.
